The 1983 film that starred two musical sensations is set to reissue its soundtrack scored by academy award-winning composer Ryuichi Sakamoto.
Sakamoto both starred in and scored Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence which won the 1983 BAFTA Award for Best Film Music. Sakamoto starred alongside David Bowie in the film directed by Nagisa Ôshima which follows a British soldier in 1942 who is a prisoner in a Japanese prison camp. Sakamoto's character in the film guides Bowie's character, explaining the way things are done in a Japanese POW.
The score will be reissued on Milan Records on 21 October. Listen to the theme to Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence below.
