Megan Thee Stallion honoured with own day in Houston
The Houston Mayor and Houston City Council have celebrated Megan Thee Stallion's philanthropic achievements by awarding her the key to the city and declaring today (2 May) as Megan Thee Stallion Day.
Megan Thee Stallion's philanthropic achievements were celebrated at a ceremony yesterday (1 May) featuring Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and members of Houston City Council. As well as beinng awarded a key to the city, Megan Thee Stallion was awarded her own day, which is today (2 May).
The rapper's own day also coincides with her late mother, and grandmother's birthdays.
On Instagram, Megan Thee Stallion wrote, "Came home real quick to get THEE KEY TO THEE CITY and in honor of my mother and grandmother’s birthday MAY 2ND is officially MEGAN THEE STALLION DAY IN HOUSTON TX. thank you Mayor Sylvester Turner for honoring me today and I will continue to give back to the city that made me who I am today."

Pitchfork reports that Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said of Megan Thee Stallion, "Megan Thee Stallion has an extraordinary entertainment career, but we wanted to honour her for what she does offstage to lift people’s lives in underserved communities. She assisted people after the 2021 winter storm, during the pandemic, and helped those struggling with homelessness. I look forward to watching her grow as an artist and humanitarian."
