Meadowlark announce debut album Postcards
Bristol-based duo Meadowlark have detailed their debut album and shared the lead single/title track "Postcards".
"When it came to recording our album album, Dan [Broadley, guitars and production] and I were so scared of losing the magic that we captured when writing 'Postcards' (the track), that we decided to keep the demo version instead," the pair's Kate McGill (vocals and keys) tells us. "It was written so quickly and it encompassed everything I was feeling at the time. It's about what you'd say to someone from your past if you had the one little chance. For us, as we're both now happy in relationships, we wanted our ex-lovers to know 'it's nice being loved'."
The track is a bright, sun-dappled brew with swirled folk-pop threads and low-key electronics - the production and harmonies are typically lush, with the depth of sound mirroring the emotional richness of McGill and Broadley's vocals.
Postcards, recorded across three 10-day sessions with producer JJ Mitchell, is the follow up to their debut EP and a slew of standalone singles released last year - much-loved numbers such as "Headlights" and "Paraffin" will feature on the record.
"This album is very special to us," McGill says of the LP. "Not only does it feel amazing to have a solid body of work to our name, but it's everything we've learnt as musicians and as human beings in the last 4 years. We've experimented sonically a lot along the way, but Postcards is where we've ended up. In a melancholy electro-pop bubble. It feels so good to finally know who we are."
As well as the track and album news, the two-piece have put out a call for fans to get involved with creating the music video by writing anonymous postcards - they want you to send in messages about "someone that's impacted [your] life in a significant way, good or bad." Find out all about the "Postcards" video project (including how to get involved) on Meadowlark's website.
The band are heading out on tour next month, with stops due at The Waiting Room in London and Manchester's Castle Hotel. Tickets for Meadowlark's headline shows are on sale now from Songkick.
