Matthew E. White releases new single "Electric"
Matthew E. White has delivered new single "Electric" as a second taster of his upcoming album K Bay.
"Electric" follows last month's lead single and album opener "Genuine Hesitation", and is teamed with a Wes Parker-directed video that sees White getting a fresh trim.
He says of the track, "I wrote this song after listening to "Me, My Baby And My Cadillac" by Sleepy Brown. I wanted to write something so intentionally direct like that. When we recorded I wanted the playing to come across raw, limit the instruments and let everything redline from start to finish. The lyrics are mostly pure 60’s bubblegum pop - think Brill Building Carole King - an homage to the overtly saccharine songwriting style of that era. There’s really an absurdity, and theater to it all."
K Bay will follow White's Broken Mirror: A Selfie Reflection joint album with Lonnie Holley that dropped in April, and is a self-produced album recorded at various locations including his Kensington Avenue home studio K Bay, Richmond’s Montrose Recording and Spacebomb Studio.
The new album marks White's first solo album in six years, following 2015's Fresh Blood.
