Mary Lattimore and Mac McCaughan announce joint album with airy lead track "III"
Harpist Mary Lattimore has teamed up with Superchunk's Mac McCaughan for a collaborative album, announced with the eerily elegant lead track "III".
"III" is the first track to be shared from the duo's new record New Rain Duets.
The two friends and collaborators recorded the record in April 2017 at the McColl Center for Art + Innovation in Charlotte, North Carolina, and was mastered by Patrick Klem (Sonic Youth, Steve Gunn).
Speaking to Stereogum, McCaughan explains, "Improvising with Mary is easy because you know that she makes anything sound beautiful, and beauty was something i think we were both after in the wake of a terrible 2016.Not that everything beautiful has to be immaculate or easy, or that dissonance doesn’t play a role, but the idea of playing music with no words, which is improvised and therefore new, was very appealing in the Spring of 2017. The name of the collaboration - New Rain Duets - hopefully reflects that idea of washing some things away and starting fresh."
Last year Lattimore released two records, Ghost Forests with Meg Baird, and Hundreds of Days. Before Christmas she unveiled a new track on Bandcamp titled "Mary, You Were Wrong".
