Marika Hackman unveils "Ophelia", announces UK tour
The new Marika Hackman tracks are coming thick and fast: we've had "Animal Fear", "Before I Sleep", and now "Ophelia" in the space of a fortnight.
Again it demonstrates a new facet of Marika's debut LP We Slept At Last; we've had screwy folktronica bombast, we've had proto-lullaby, and in "Ophelia", we have a dreamy summer-slowburner. There are shimmering electronics and exotic percussion lurking behind her tender vocals and idiosyncratic acoustic strummery, but unlike "Animal Fear" - also heavy on the synths - we get something relaxing and destined to soundtrack sandy adventures. It's still kind of dark ("hiding in the midnight of my soul/please don't break the shell that I call home..."), but there's a sedative streak to be gleaned too.
We Slept At Last is released 16 February via Dirty Hit.
Hackman's also announced a grand UK tour for Spring, and you can find the dates after you stream "Ophelia" below.
