Manchester Orchestra share "The Gold" ahead of new record A Black Mile To The Surface
Atlanta-based melancholia merchants Manchester Orchestra have announced new LP A Black Mile To The Surface and shared lead single "The Gold".
The accompanying visuals for "The Gold" come courtesy of directors Mike Dempsey and Johnny Chew.
Catherine Marks (Foals, PJ Harvey), John Congleton (St. Vincent, Explosions In The Sky), and Dan Hannon are on board as producers on Manchester Orchestra's new LP, the follow up to Cope (which Biffy Clyro's Simon Neil reviewed for us back in 2014). The new album arrives after a spell scoring Daniel Radcliffe-starring flick Swiss Army Man.
"We’re a band that loves to use heavy, crunchy guitars," says the group's Andy Hull. "We wondered how we could limit the use of that, so that when the guitars come in they can be creative and impactful. For Swiss Army Man we had to make 70 minutes of music with our hands tied behind our backs. When you’re creating all the sounds you need just from the human voice, it allows you to rethink what is possible, and determine what is really needed. We wanted to make an album in a 'non-Manchester' way if there is such a thing."
Manchester Orchestra have also announced a new run of UK shows, including stops at Glasgow's Garage at London's Shepherds Bush Empire in October. Find out more.
