Malena Zavala shares soothing new single "Memories Gone"
Malena Zavala is back with new track "Memories Gone", the fourth taster of her second LP La Yarará.
"Memories Gone" arrives after earlier singles "La Yarará", "I'm Leaving Home" and "En La Noche".
Zavala notes that the track is about "mourning the loss of a memory that has faded away", and adds, "I wrote it when making my first album, but I wanted to tie it all in with the Latino feel of "La Yarará" so I stripped it back to vocals and guitar added a ronroco arrangement. The ronroco is an Andean ten stringed guitar-like instrument that has a slight echo and somehow creates its own reverb, and I love the way it sounds on the track."
La Yarará will follow on from Zavala's 2018 debut album Aliso. The new LP is self-produced, and was recorded in the space of two weeks at Urchin Studios in London Fields. She says of working at Urchin Studios, "Urchin is a really beautiful, all wooden studio, which was really important for the sound of this album. I wanted it to feel like Buena Vista Social Club. I wanted to play the room, to feel the walls and wooden floors."
Speaking about La Yarará, Zavala adds, "When I started making music it was more about expressing my emotions, and learning to write and produce music myself. With my first album Aliso, I had to get something off my chest. But now with this second album, it was about exploring and overcoming my identity issues – about not knowing where I belong. That’s something I’ve felt my whole life."
