Machinedrum links with Father for mellow new track "Spin Blocks"
Machinedrum has teamed up with Atlanta rapper Father for new track "Spin Blocks", which will feature on his upcoming album A View of U.
"Spin Blocks" featuring Father lands after earlier releases "Star", "Believe in U", "Kane Train" (featuring Freddie Gibbs) and "Ur2yung".
Machinedrum says of the track, "I made the beat for "Spin Blocks" some time in 2019 when I was getting back into sampling again. I sampled this beautiful song called "Ujimma" by The Lightmen Plus One and I played some guitar on it as well. I had my homie Miguel aka Holly come in and do some extra production bits and sound design to add some spice and then I sent it over to Father and he smashed it! I'm a huge fan of his so it was really thrilling to get him on this track."
Father adds, "Working with Machinedrum was effortless. There were no limitations of what I could do and he really supported that for the track. I was able to just be myself and it worked out perfect."
A View of U is Machinedrum's ninth LP, and will feature collaborations with Sub Focus, Rochelle Jordan, Chrome Sparks and more.
The "U" in the new album title represents the universe and/or the infinite, and the title as a whole represents an out of body experience. Machinedrum explains, "The feeling of being out of your body feels infinite. It feels like time has stopped. It feels like the birth of creation. It feels like the impossible becomes possible. It feels unfamiliar and familiar at the same time. It feels scary at first but once you let go of that fear and surrender to the experience it feels incredibly beautiful and life changing."
He adds, "When I am in the creative zone I tend to forget time, who I am and where I am. As I became aware of my OOBE (out of body experience) through song creation, choosing what songs should go on an album as well as through my meditation, I realised that this was meant to be the central theme of the album."
