Mac Miller talks forthcoming album on BBC 1Xtra
Dropping in to appear on BBC Radio 1Xtra’s Semtex show on Friday night, Pittsburgh multi-talent Mac Miller spoke about record Watching Movies With The Sound Off and exhibited a handful of new songs.
Miller talked about his current promo duties and upcoming London show on Monday, as well as the impetus behind his second studio album. According to the rapper, Watching Movies With The Sound Off takes its title from his habit of having a television switched on and muted whilst recording, to provide “something visually pleasing” to complement the process.
Of his new record, Miller said that “this one is the right one, for sure,” and that “this album is not some crazy shift, it’s the album you’ve always wanted me to make”. He referred to the Flying Lotus-produced S.D.S. as “a banger, but it makes statements, which is cool,” while in response to a listener’s question he claimed that Remember is the best he’s ever done.
Acting in a producing capacity under the pseudonym Larry Fisherman, alongside Flying Lotus and Pharrell, Miller has also brought in fellow L.A.-based enfants terribles Earl Sweatshirt and Tyler, the Creator of Odd Future. He spoke of Tyler adding, on the Tamale-esque O.K., a “comic relief” to what was originally a “depressing” first cut of the album.
>Miller dropped excited hints about his collaboration with elusive rapper and record producer Jay Electronica, before allowing Semtex to première their track Suplexes Inside of Complexes and Duplexes.
Watching Movies With The Sound Off is to be released in the U.K. on June 17th, after which Miller will tour the U.S. with an ensemble cast featuring, amongst others, Chance the Rapper, Earl, and The Internet.
