M.I.A wrote new album track 'Sexodus' for Madonna
-
With fourth LP Matangi released next month, M.I.A. has revealed that one of its Weeknd-featuring tracks, ‘Sexodus’, was originally offered to Madonna.
“I actually played that song to Madonna when I wrote it and said, ‘Oh, you can have this,’” she told The Guardian: “She gave it back to me.”
Having worked together on ‘Give Me All Your Luvin’ and performed at the Super Bowl, the rapper was interested in the singer’s take on the song’s concept of “When you have it all, what should you do with it?”.
“You spend it!” was apparently Madonna’s response, with which M.I.A. disagreed but conceded that “Madonna is true to Madonna. She always said she was a material girl.”
Hear ‘Sexodus’ when Matangi drops on 5 November. Until then, you can stream M.I.A.’s latest single, ’Y.A.L.A’, here.
