M.I.A has premiered the video for her returning effort ‘Bad Girls’ on Vice’s video network Noisey. Originally featured on the artists’ Vicki Leekx mixtape, the track has been re-produced by Danja for its official release with brilliant, bombastic pop chorus lines that punctuate the overall middle-eastern inspired, mid-tempo r’n’b vibe.
Shot in Ouarzazate, Morocco the footage was directed by Romain Gavras (the man her ‘Born Free’ video) and features the Sri Lankan singer calmly hanging onto drag racing, drifting, side-winding cars as they speed by in the dust.
Speaking about the video M.I.A said: ‘It was dope to have so many people from so many different backgrounds speaking so many different languages come together to create something that we believed in. I thought I was gonna die on the shoot when I saw the drifting. It was a four day shoot so everyone was on edge the whole time specifically ME when I had to do bluesteel singing to the camera while the cars did doughnuts on the wet road ten feet away.”
M.I.A. is currently at work on her as-yet untitled fourth LP.
