Lucy Dacus delivers bilingual take on Edith Piaf’s "La Vie En Rose"
Lucy Dacus turns on the romance for February with bilingual cover of Edith Piaf’s "La Vie En Rose".
Originally released by Edith Piaf in 1947, "La Vie En Rose" has become a popular track to cover, resulting in versions from Lady Gaga in A Star Is Born, Grace Jones, and Louis Armstrong, just to name a few.
Today the iconic track receives another makeover, this time from one third of boygenius, Lucy Dacus.
Explaining why she came to cover the track, Dacus explains, "From the first time I heard it, I thought "La Vie En Rose" was a perfect song. Hearing it, I knew that, one day, I would fall in love. I want someone to listen to this while running at top speed to the doorstep of the person they adore, ready to profess their deep, undying love. (PS, there’s a longer story about singing this song as a duet with my middle school janitor, but it is not concise)."
"La Vie En Rose" arrives with news of a new holiday-inspired EP called 2019, recorded sporadically by Dacus over the past two years. The singles will arrive on Taurus season and US Mother’s Day, American Independence Day, Bruce Springsteen’s birthday, Halloween, Christmas, and New Year’s.
The Valentines Day-inspired single is Dacus' first offering of the year, landing after 2018 Historian record, and collaboration with Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker, boygenius.
