London's Hammersmith Apollo shuts for multi-million pound upgrade
London music and entertainment venue, the Hammersmith Apollo is set to undergo a multi-million pound upgrade, closing in the mean time.
The 81 year old art deco building, like Earls Court which recently was approved for demolishing by mayor Boris Johnson, had been fighting for its life, before its new owners promised to give it “a new lease of life”.
Works are currently being carried out on the building, with the venue aiming to re-open on 7 September with newly constructed bars and seats in both the stalls and seats. There will also be a restoration of two hidden staircases and plasterwork.
Colin Chapple said: “As the new owners AEG and CTS Eventim recognised that London deserved more from one of its foremost venues. With a passion for delivering a high standard of comfort to the fan the changes we are making in seating, ventilation and the bar operations will ensure they will enjoy the best music and comedy talent in a wonderful venue capturing the original Art Deco heritage.”
