London gets purple (again) for Prince and 3RDEYEGIRL
Last night saw Prince hit the capital for two shows at Camden’s Roundhouse venue on the second leg of his Hit and Run tour.
Playing early and late evening sets at the North London venue, fans were treated to spectacular greatest hits sets from the legendary performer, alongside 3RDEYEGIRL, his current band.
Both shows at the 3,300 capacity venue were dominated with highlights from his thirty year plus career and opened with a grungy “Let’s Go Crazy”. During “When Doves Cry” the 55-year old Minnesotan quipped “y’all ain’t ready for me…I got too many hits” - the likes of “1999”, “Little Red Corvette”, “Take Me With U”, “Raspberry Beret”, “Controversy” and “Nothing Compares 2 U” followed.
A 12 minute “Something in the Water” pushed the second set over the Roundhouse’s curfew time and - after four encores - finally concluded with “What’s My Name” from 1998’s Crystal Ball at around 12.45am.
Tickets for the performances - which went on-sale on Tuesday - were tightly controlled and phones and photography were similarly limited as per Prince’s usual wishes.
Among the predictably famous faces in attendance at the Roundhouse was none other than the equally legendary comedian and notable bird watcher Bill Oddie.
