Lola Kirke shares her Christmas spirit on two new festive tracks
Lola Kirke has provided her take on Christmas with two festive tracks, "Little Drummer Girl", and original offering, "Cross You Off My List".
Lola Kirke's two new tracks were both produced by her partner Wyndham Boylan-Garnett.
The first of the two tracks is a reversed gender version of "Little Drummer Boy". Explaining it in more detail to PAPER, Kirke says, "We wanted to update an old narrative by changing the gender of the character within the song and set the classic to a musical landscape that was both exciting to us and also peaceful."
Kirke's second festive release is an original called "Cross You Off My List". If you're already weighing up whether you've been naughty or nice this year, there's a little more to learn about the story behind this offering. Speaking to PAPER, Kirke said, "Wyndham and I originally wrote "Cross You Off My List" in the wake of the 2016 elections. It was a much more somber sounding song that set out to question how to celebrate Christmas in such a fraught environment. While we're still conflicted about how to invoke the "spirit of Christmas" in today's political climate, we decided to revise the song—set it to a more a upbeat chord progression and dash it with a bit more hope."
The two Christmas tracks arrive shortly after her witty debut record Heart Head West that arrived back in August.
Lola Kirke will perform two shows in London later this month, one at Rough Trade East on 27 November, and the other at The Lexington on 30 November. Find out more.
