Listen to "On & On" by Joey Bada$$, featuring Maverick Sabre and Dyemond Lewis
Joey Bada$$ only released a new track a few days ago - the retro-tilting "Curry Chicken" - but he's already back for another round.
"On & On" is the latest in a steady stream of fresh sounds; it features Dyemond Lewis, a fellow Pro-Era flowsmith, and Maverick Sabre.
Again we see Bada$$ getting all nostalgic, peering at the past with Old School-style production (courtesy of Freddie Joachim) and crispy, crackly beats. Jarring jazz-flecked keys underpin the melodic side, with off-kilter scales imbuing the track with a sense of suspense as opposed to classic fluidity. Just as you think it's a clear-cut hip-hop sizzler, Sabre's voice cuts through it, giving the sounds a weathered soul vibe. It might seem like we've heard this all before, but Bada$$ manages to make it addictive nonetheless.
B4.DA.$$ is set for release 19 January.
