Listen to Moby cover Duran Duran’s “Rio”
LA record label Manimal has a Duran Duran tribute album in the works, and they’ve just shared a cut from it, featuring Moby taking on “Rio.”
A far step from the original—an energetic ensemble of pop-rock grooves, lively guitar licks and one hell of a sax solo—Moby’s take on the tune is entirely unrecognizable, starting off as an ambling trance tune which flourishes into a more frantic, dispersed rhythm, all guided by a powerful female vocal line.
Moby’s “Rio” will be available via iTunes on 3 July. Making Patterns Rhyme is due out in July, with all proceeds going to benefit Amnesty International.
Below, listen to Moby’s take on “Rio” as well as the original recording and check out the album’s (tentative) tracklist.
