"Borders"
"Borders is the perfect way to start the album with, introducing heavy synths, as they are a big part of our new sound. I especially love the drums in this song. Bibbi is actually playing a chair as well as normal drums. The lyrics are basically about going out of your comfort zone and experiencing something new and better."
"Weightless"
"This song is one of those songs that kind of wrote itself. I remember being very tired during the practice when we wrote it and just singing whatever came to mind - and we recorded that just for reference. Next day I listened to the recording and figured that this melody was actually effortless and would be good for the song. Sometimes it's best not to overthink things."
"Sigling"
"This song was made in the recording studio. We basically just had the bass line with effects that we thought were cool and went to Helgi (Helgi Hrafn Jónsson - our producer) with that. He is really into improvising. I had no lyrics written when we were starting to make the song, but Helgi asked me if I could do them fast so we could have a reference vocal. While the band went for a coffee break I sat down and wrote the lyrics in 15 minutes, inspired by one of my favorite Icelandic poems. Helgi asked me if I wanted to sing the lyrics for him, so I basically made up the melody as I thought it fitted with each word when I sang the lyrics for the first time, and that exact one take vocal, ended up on the album: me kind of whispering the lyrics for the first time, so there is a very uncertain and shy feeling in the voice, which actually fitted great to the feeling of the song."
"Killing Time"
"This was the first single from the new album. It's a very simple song compared to what we've done before. It's mostly a synth arpeggiator, piano and vocals. The lyrics are a thought about age, of how the phrase of growing old is often negative but instead how we could look at it as we're just collecting more memories and moments that we cherish."
"The Backbone"
"This song is one of the newest songs that we wrote for the album. It's quite a basic rock song. I was inspired by my childhood neighborhood when I wrote the lyrics, on how you visit a place again that you haven't seen in a long time and how your views have changed although everything else still looks the same."
"White Mountain"
"This song is the "epic mountain" of the album. The lyrics are blatantly inspired by Game of Thrones as I was mesmerised with the epic scenes of the show and wanted to use the scenery for the lyrics. The song is a scenic journey through snowy mountains, heading to fight a battle. If you know the Game of Thrones crew, please ask them to use this song!"
"The In Between"
"This song started as just the ending of a longer song, but then we decided to cut the other parts from it as this was better as if it could stand alone like a interlude or in-between song. I think the lyrics are rather haunting and it's a perfect bridge between White Mountain and Flugdrekar."
"Flugdrekar"
"This song started out as a cheerful pop song with catchy drums, but suddenly we figured it made more sense in a stripped down version, so we made it clear and honest. I wanted it to be as intimate as I could so I wanted it to be in Icelandic. I wanted to feature the word "Flugdrekar" in the lyrics which means "kites". It's cooler in Icelandic though, because the literal meaning is "flying dragons". It's just very honest and genuine love song, about tripping on somebody's feet and falling hard in love. I'm hoping somebody asks us to use it in their wedding. It's a perfect wedding song."
"Blue Skies"
"I think this song is the most positive song of the album. It's filled with this sense of hope and following your dreams. I feel like you have so many dreams that you can easily kill if you don't believe in them enough, so it's a reminder, to bring your dreams back to life and how the blue skies are always waiting in behind the grey ones."
"Hunger"
"'Hunger' is quite different from what we've done before, and we were even thinking if it was too different to be on the album, but then we felt it fitted to have one dark, disco inspired pop song. It's about basic instincts and the dark parts of ourselves and how we sometimes we get to know these parts in each other."
"Red Sun"
"This song is a bit heavier than the rest. It's basically about violence and being afraid of leaving. Not a very bright message in the last song, but the last part of the song is quite hopeful though. And very groovy. Rökkurró has never made such groovy part of a song, its like afro beat and awesome bass line and it's hard to stay still when we're playing this song live."
