Listen to Butch Walker's "21+ (feat. Johnny Depp)", produced by Ryan Adams
If the term supergroup was ever applicable in this modern day, it would surely fit the combo of Butch Walker, Johnny Depp and Ryan Adams.
Ryan Adams has produced the entirety of Walker's seventh studio record, Afraid Of Ghosts. Johnny Depp features on the lead single, "21+", injecting his guitar prowess into the fray into the form of a sizzling solo.
The result of the team effort is a grazed-elbow country-western ballad. Morose guitars and slick '80s axe licks (courtesy of Depp) litter the cut, with melody generally conveyed by the gently plink-plonk of old piano. Walker's lyrics and vocals are tender - Adams' presence is clearly felt, but it doesn't overshadow the main man's raw talent.
