Liss announce debut album recorded with late lead vocalist Søren Holm
Denmark's Liss have announced their debut album I Guess Nothing Will Be The Same, recorded with their late lead vocalist Søren Holm, and have shared two lead tracks "Country Fuckboy" and "Exist".
Nearly a year on from the death of Liss lead vocalist Søren Holm, the band have announced that they will release their debut album recorded with Holm, titled I Guess Nothing Will Be The Same.
Liss have released two tracks from the record to accompany the news, titled "Country Fuckboy" and "Exist". "Country Fuckboy" is teamed with a video by Albert Hildebrand, while "Exist" arrives with a video by Yasmina Derradj.
On "Country Fuckboy", Liss wrote, "Søren came up with the title "Country Fuckboy" when we had relocated from Copenhagen to his childhood home far out in the Danish countryside during lockdown. Out here, under the flat sky of West Jutland, we could write music around the clock. We joked about settling down and becoming potato farmers, since the farm was surrounded by potato fields and we pretty much ate nothing else. The contrast in the two incompatible words "Country" and "Fuckboy" is a good example of Søren's great humour and self-effacing irony. The song can be interpreted in many ways, and that complexity is in our eyes one of the many qualities of Søren's songwriting."
They added of "Exist", "In the summer of 2020, we wrote and recorded the song "Exist" out on Sørens' dad's farm, in the west of Jutland, in connection with a live session for Greenpeace. We were so happy with the vibe we managed to capture that we ended up using the recording for the finished track. The video footage is from that same session, and represent a time we had together that we will never forget."
In a statement, Liss wrote of Holm and the album, "It's hard to talk about what happened. Søren lost his life to suicide. While he had been struggling with his mental health for several years, his death was a huge shock to everyone around him. We still have a hard time understanding what has happened. Søren was an incredibly loving person who cared a lot about others, and you could always count on him when life was tough. He was the best friend one could ever dream of. We miss him every day, and we wish he had told us how he felt so that we could have helped him. The consequences of suicide are indescribably tough for those who are left behind. Losing a loved one in that way is not something we will ever get over. It is something you have to live with for the rest of your life."
"Last spring, before Søren passed away, we had just finished a record which was ready for release," Liss continued. "Writing our debut album has been a constant since we started Liss seven years ago. With the blessing and encouragement of Søren’s family, we've decided to share that music with you over the coming months. These are songs that we have been working on for many years and that we have dreamed of releasing since we started Liss. Søren was incredibly proud of what we created together and he put so much life and soul into the music, which will live on forever."
