Legendary New Jersey venue Maxwell's set to close
Renowned music venue and club, New Jersey’s Maxwell’s will shut its doors at the end of July.
Having originally opened in 1978, before renovation in 1998, the bar has been at the heart of the Hoboken music scene for the past 30+ years.
But, with its lease due up in the summer, reasons to close are said to be financial. “We were offered a renewal with rates that weren’t necessarily onerous,” says co-owner Todd Abramson. “But after much thought, given the changing nature of Hoboken and the difficulties of trying to run a business in this town, we decided it was time.”
Maxwell’s will host a final show on 31 July, with the first band that ever graced the stage ‘a’ (featuring members of The Bongos and Glenn Morrow) headlining the last night.
