Legendary guitarist Ry Cooder shares the title track from upcoming solo record
Legendary guitarist Ry Cooder has shared "The Prodigal Son", the title track from his first solo release in six years.
Cooder - who's collaborated with Captain Beefheart, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Neil Young, Van Morrison, and many more - has also detailed his upcoming LP, which follows poltically charged 2012 offering Election Special. As well three original tracks, the album features a range of "carefully selected" covers and contributions from Joachim Cooder, Robert Francis, Sam Gendel, and The Hamiltones.
"I do connect the political/economic dimensions with the inner life of people, since people are at risk and oppressed on all sides in our world today," Cooder says in the album’s liner notes. "There's some kind of reverence mood that takes hold when you play and sing these songs. 'Reverence' is a word I heard my granddaughter's nursery school teacher use, a Kashmiri woman. She said, 'We don't want to teach religion, but instill reverence.' I thought that was a good word for the feeling of this music."
Cooder plays a North American tour in the coming months, kicking off in San Francisco on 4 May. Find out more.
