LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy designs his own soundsystem
If KISS can get their own branded bobble-heads and heaven knows what else, then a logical marketing move was always going to be LCD Soundsystem’s main-man James Murphy bringing out his very own soundsystem.
But things aren’t as money-grabbing as that sounds, instead Murphy is designing a soundsystem for this year’s Manchester International Festival, where he’ll be hosting a stage for his new club night Despacio.
The soundsystem was designed with help from John Klett and attempts to combat the “tinny, sad, hyper-aggressive” systems already in existence.
So what’s different about this new one? “It’s a simple, floor-standing series of giant stacks, comfortably doing full, smooth sound,” says Murphy. “It’s pretty wide-open, pretty raw.”
Murphy’s Despacio club night runs at Manchester’s New Century Hall from 18-20 July.
