Lauryn Hill releases new single, sentenced 3 months for unpaid taxes
Last month, it was revealed that R&B singer and former Fugees star, Lauryn Hill was being forced to ink a new record deal with Sony Music in order to settle a $504,000 unpaid tax bill and avoid subsequent prison time.
This led to a pretty busy Bank Holiday for the musician, which saw her release new track ‘Neurotic Society (Compulsory Mix)’ – her first offering of new material in 3 years.
“Here is a link to a piece that I was ‘required’ to release immediately, by virtue of the impending legal deadline,” a message prefacing the track read. “I love being able to reach people directly, but in an ideal scenario, I would not have to rush the release of new music… but the message is still there.”
Sadly this wasn’t enough to pay off the courts, as she was sentenced yesterday to three month home confinement. ”I needed to be able to earn so I could pay my taxes, without compromising the health and welfare of my children, and I was being denied that,” she told the judge.
