Laurie Anderson and the Kronos Quartet announce avant-garde collaborative album
Composer and violinist Laurie Anderson announces a 30-track collaborative album with San Fransisco-based group Kronos Quartet.
Due out in February, the project is titled Landfall, and is intended to document Anderson’s experiences during 2012’s Hurricane Sandy. The narrative thread becomes apparent from a glance at the tracklisting, which features titles such as “CNN Predicts a Monster Storm”, “The Electricity Goes out and We Move to a Hotel”, and “It Twisted the Street Signs”.
“We Learn To Speak Yet Another Language” is our cryptic first taste of the record, pairing sweet, resonant string arrangements with ominous electronics and a brief spoken word segment.
Alongside the album announcement, Anderson has also announced a written work due out the same month. All The Things I Lost in the Flood will explore the musician’s archives, with extracts from previously unseen written and artistic works alongside longer form prose.
