Laure Briard brings the French '60s back to life
Last year, French singer/songwriter Laure Briard released Sur La Piste De Danse, a formidable pop album alternating between French yé-yé and psych-rock, with hints of spaghetti western.
Her new EP Sorcellerie takes the same liberal approach to genres, with great success. "On dit que je ne suis pas sage" is a cover of French cinema legend Jeanne Moreau, and firmly in '60s territory. Rearranged with elegance by labelmate Michelle Blades, it's a melancholic first-person account of a "misbehaved" woman who's had her fair share of romantic adventures and no regrets.
In the Julia Romanovskaya-directed moody video, Briard nonchalently pushes away unenthusiastic courtiers in a retro hotel room basked by golden light. Take a seat and enjoy.
