Lady Gaga's ARTPOP sells 75% less than previous album Born This Way
Despite much hype and anticipation, Lady Gaga’s recent album ARTPOP received mostly less than favourable reviews. Now it appears to not have done spectacularly commercially either.
Even though it still entered the charts at #1, the album only sold 258,000 copies in the U.S during its opening week. Compare this to the 1.1 million units shifted by Born This Way and figures don’t look so rosy.
In terms of comparison, pop rivals Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus both beat Gaga in the sales stakes recently, with their album Prism and Bangerz selling 286,000 and 270,000 respectively.
Meanwhile, Justin Timberlake’s The 20/20 Experience is still at top spot for opening week figures during 2013, selling a whopping 968,000 albums. Even Kanye West’s Yeezus, which was hardly promoted, sold more than Gaga with 327,000.
Lady Gaga, on the other hand, will soon be the first musician to perform in space. We’re sure that’ll more than make up for this blip.
