Kurt Vile's "Wakin' On A Pretty Daze" mural defaced in Philadelphia
The mural depicted on the cover art for Kurt Vile’s 2013 album Wakin’ On A Pretty Daze has been painted over in Philadelphia, with the offender claiming it was “attracting graffiti to the neighborhood”.
The mural was originally was created by Steve “ESPO” Powers and has been a much-loved landmark in the area during recent times. Over the weekend, however, local resident DJ Lee Mayjahs took to white-washing the wall.
“Every time I paint over illegal graffiti I was blaming it on it (the mural) and I didn’t realize the people in the neighborhood love it,” Mayjahs told a reporter after the event. “I’ve never really sat and looked at it. I never did any research on it and then I just snapped.”
A representative of Vile has stated that the mural will be repainted and updated. You can check out a photo of the defacement in process below:
