Kurt Vile, Sharon Van Etten & more to perform at Big Star tribute concert
A new documentary on Big Star entitled Nothing Can Hurt Me will be released next week, with a special concert planned in Chicago celebrating it.
The band’s classic album Third will be performed in full on 30 June with a live orchestra, featuring various famed musicians including Kurt Vile, Sharon Van Etten, Pete Yorn, Richard Lloyd (Television), Jonathan Donahue (Mercury Rev) and Mike Mills (R.E.M).
The film itself will showcase never-before-seen footage and photos of the band, in-depth interviews and a rousing musical tribute by the bands they inspired. Big Star have been cited as an influence by artists including REM, Flaming Lips and The Replacements.
Third was released by the legendary Memphis rock band back in 1978. It was included in Rolling Stone’s influential ‘The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time’ list.
