Kings of Leon will be first band to send an NFT song to space
Next week Kings of Leon will become the first band to send an NFT song to space, and they're doing it to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The NFT, which is a live recording of their "Time in Disguise" song, will join the all-civilian Inspiration4 crew next week on their three-day journey to space, and Kings of Leon have teamed up with SpaceX for an auction to help raise $200 million for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
According to PEOPLE, the NFT will be "the first minted music NFT to go up in space", and civilian astronaut Hayley Arceneaux will play the song in orbit from an iPhone with the NFT.
The NFT is up for auction now with an opening bid of $50,000. The winner of the auction will receive the NFT itself as well as the iPhone 12 that travelled into space.

Kings of Leon said, "It means so much to us to be a part of this historic moment. When we wrote and recorded "Time in Disguise" in the studio, we always thought it had a spacy feel to it and then the visuals from our live show have that vibe, as well."
They added, "To now have that song and those images be a part of something as historic as this is really cool, and having it raise money for a cause we've always cared so much about, makes it even better."
