Kim Shattuck and Ali Koehler discuss getting fired from Pixies and Best Coast
Kim Shattuck and Ali Koehler were recent guests on an episode of Nerdist Industries podcast “Jonah Raydio”, with both discussing the topic of getting kicked out of bands.
Shattuck was recently fired from the Pixies, whilst Koehler (now of Upset) is a former member of both Best Coast and Vivian Girls.
“The manager kept trying to make me really nervous. He’s kind of weird. He did it to me and he did it to Joey before the iTunes Roundhouse gig,” Shattuck is quoted as saying on the podcast. “He goes into my face and goes, “Kim, I just wanted you to know that there are gonna be billions of people watching you live and you need to be perfect.” I laughed, I’m like, “Well good thing for me that I never get nervous.” I heard him do it to Joey, too. ”
Meanwhile, Koehler had this to say about her time with Best Coast: “I was fired by the Best Coast manager. He was the one that did it. A source of contention on my part. I just got a phone call that was like, “Hey, so, as you know, we are recording a new album.” “We,” because the manager is “we”. ”We’re recording a new album, and blah blah blah, and we got someone to play bass, and just so you know, we got someone else to play drums.” And I was like, “OK?” And he was like, “So yeah, thanks for everything, and blah blah blah. That’s it, bye!”.”
