Kevin Parker drops new Tame Impala track in the middle of a Reddit AMA
Whilst conducting an AMA on Reddit, Tame Impala mastermind Kevin Parker dropped a brand new track from the band's upcoming third LP (here's a link to the moment it happened).
Barely reaching the two minute mark, "Disciples" is the most enticing teaser yet.
The musician also weighed in on the magic of songwriting, value of music, and which Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle is the best.
"[Music] hasn't lost it's magic... It doesn't stay the same though. It evolves and changes form... I guess in the beginning it's very simple," Parker explained of his experience with being a musician. "You love what you love and you hate what you hate. But after a while boundaries a blurred... Things aren't as the seem. You trade in the mystery of something for the ability to recreate it... But it just makes you search for NEW mysteries. NEW things to wow and confuse you..."
"There's all this talk of music needing a monetary value, this ownership of music, even that it needs a physical form. But intrinsically... It's MUSIC, it should be better than that," Parker said when asked about his response to illegal downloads. "Some of my most important musical experiences were from a burnt CD with songs my friend downloaded for me at a terrible digital quality... I didn't care... It changed my life all the same. For me the value of music is the value you extract from it... As far as I'm concerned the best thing you can do for an artist is LISTEN to the music... Fall in love with it... Talk about it... Get it however you can get it."
"I've been trying for 20 years to decide which is my favourite turtle and I still cannot. They each have qualities I really admire and to pick one would be discounting the rest!"
