Kevin Abstract reveals he isn't happy releasing music because of his record deal
In a voice note, Kevin Abstract revealed that his record deal made him feel obligated to release new music.
Despite having just released his ARIZONA baby record, Kevin Abstract revealed in a now-deleted voice note on Friday (3 May) that his record deal with RCA is the only reason he released new music.
Stereogum reports that he said in the voice note on his website, "I’m currently writing music, and songs and albums from hell."
He added, "Saturation 1, 2 and 3, was my moment of catching magic…I have to release music not from joy but from obligation, which will cause messy, unfinished work."
During the voice note, Abstract also compares his situation to Lauryn Hill, "I’m currently living my Lauryn Hill moment. She made one of the greatest pieces of music and it seems so unattainable from other people. It’s like she caught magic…Whatever happened to Lauryn Hill after Miseducation put her in a place where she no longer wanted to make music…it kind of sent her to hell in a way."
At the end of last month, Abstract also revealed on Twitter that he was "at a really low point", before adding, "I am so ashamed of myself and I need to get better. Thanks for the immense love you continue to send me. Im leaving the country and going to work on fixing me starting tmrw."
I’m at a really low point and I don’t know what it is. These past few days have been the hardest ever. I am so ashamed of myself and I need to get better. Thanks for the immense love you continue to send me. Im leaving the country and going to work on fixing me starting tmrw.
