Kendrick Lamar leads 2013 Soul Train Awards nominees
This year’s Soul Train Awards nominations have been announced, and Kendrick Lamar leads the nominees in no fewer than six categories.
The Compton rapper has been nominated for Best New Artist; Album of the Year, for good kid, m.A.A.d city; Video of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Hip Hop Song of the Year, all for ‘Poetic Justice’; and also in the Best Collaboration category, for guesting on Miguel‘s ‘How Many Drinks.’
Honorable mentions go also to Janelle Monáe- nominated for Best R&B/Soul Female Artist, and for Video of the Year, Best Dance Performance and The Ashford and Simpson Songwriter’s Award, all for ‘Q.U.E.E.N’- and Miguel, with five nominations including Best R&B/Soul Male Artist and Album of the Year. Justin Timberlake, Robin Thicke, Chris Brown and Tamar Braxton all pick up five nominations of their own.
Last year’s ceremony saw gongs collected by Frank Ocean- Best Album for Channel Orange- and champion of overzealous fans, Beyoncé, for Best R&B/Soul Female Artist.
The 2013 Soul Train Awards, hosted by comedian and actor Anthony Anderson, will be held on 8 November, and broadcast on 1 December.
