Kendrick Lamar's engineer MixedByAli reckons there's about "six albums" worth of unreleased material
MixedByAli, aka Derek Ali, aka Kendrick Lamar's engineer, has revealed in a new podcast that the rapper has around "six albums" worth of unreleased material.
In the latest episode of The ETCs podcast hosted by NBA star Kevin Durant and Eddie Gonzalez, the duo speak to MixedByAli, who has worked on every Kendrick Lamar album since 2012's Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City.
MixedByAli is asked about how much music is left off releases by artists at Top Dawg Entertainment, and MixedByAli responds, "For Kendrick alone, let me say I think we could put together like six albums."
Right before being asked that question, MixedByAli discusses how hands on Lamar is during his process, "Bro if I farted on a song by accident he gon' hear all of that shit. He's a genius to say the least. I honestly believe that's where we all got of our work ethic from ... how he writes, how he performs, how he just inspires everybody around him to do better, this man is one in a million man. He's hands on in every way ... it's crazy man. He's one of the most articulate, just surgical dudes i've ever met in my entire life."
While discussing how much unreleased material Lamar has, MixedByAli spoke about the rapper's constant drive for perfection, "That's Kendrick's whole mindstate, is just always striving to do better whether it's recording a new verse, you know, he would record a whole song and get one ad-lib back a month later because he don't like how he breathed the ad-lib."
MixedByAli goes on to praise Lamar's attention to detail, before adding, "He's a true artist."
