"How utterly brilliant!": Kate Bush reacts to "Running Up That Hill" reaching number two in UK chart
Kate Bush has shared another statement on her site after "Running Up That Hill" reached a new peak of number two in the UK Singles Chart last week, writing that it's "utterly brilliant!"
Since the release of Stranger Things season four on Netflix last month, streams for Kate Bush's 1985 hit "Running Up That Hill" have skyrocketed. The song reached the top of the iTunes charts in the US, was named "the biggest gainer on the Global Spotify chart," and re-entered the UK Top 10 in the Singles Chart at number eight on 3 June.
After thanking fans in a statement on her site, Bush has shared a second post about the song reaching a new peak of number two in the UK Singles Chart, and topping charts in Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland and Sweden.
Bush wrote, "How utterly brilliant! It’s hard to take in the speed at which this has all been happening since the release of the first part of the Stranger Things new series. So many young people who love the show, discovering the song for the first time."
"The response to "Running Up That Hill" is something that has had its own energy and volition," Bush continued. "A direct relationship between the shows and their audience and one that has stood completely outside of the music business. We’ve all been astounded to watch the track explode!"
She added, "Thanks so much to everyone who has supported the song and a really special thank you to the Duffer Brothers for creating something with such heart."
