Kate Bush opens up about David Bowie in new interview
In a new interview with The FADER, Kate Bush has spoken about her friendship with David Bowie and her next musical steps.
In January, after Bowie's passing, Bush wrote a tribute: "[He] had everything. He was intelligent, imaginative, brave, charismatic, cool, sexy and truly inspirational both visually and musically. He created such staggeringly brilliant work, yes, but so much of it and it was so good..."
Speaking to Owen Myers for The FADER, Bush elaborated on her decision to break her characteristic media silence.
"I was asked whether I would write something, and because he meant such a lot to me, I really felt moved to do so," Bush explains. "He was one of my great heroes when I was growing up. He was such a brave artist, so unusual, and I loved his music. I met him a few times; he was really charming and playful. But I just sort of admired what he achieved creatively."
Bush also discusses her influence, modern music, Black Mirror, and her next musical steps - but if you're expecting an original record any time soon, you're probably going to be disappointed.
"No, I'm not," Bush replies when asked if she's working on new music. "I've been tied up with this project for a really long time. And right now I'm tied up with the promotion and other elements that go with getting ready to release the album. I'm looking forward to being in the space where I can think about what's next."
In an interview with BBC 6 Music, Bush spoke about another late legend: Prince.
