Karen O and Danger Mouse announce collaborative album, share lead single "Lux Prima"
Karen O and Danger Mouse have revealed the first taste of their upcoming collaborative album, in the form of a nine-minute track "Lux Prima".
Karen O, the vocalist from Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Danger Mouse, who has previously collaborated with MF Doom under the alias Danger Doom, have united for a new side project.
“"Lux Prima" is the first song we wrote for the record,” explains Karen O. “After making music for the past twenty years and embarking on making this record with Danger Mouse I knew a couple things: one was that the spirit of collaboration between us was going to be a pure one, and two was that the more I live the less is clear to me. When you create from a blurry place you can go places further than you’ve ever been. I think we both were excited to go far out.”
Danger Mouse also offers his side to the story, “With "Lux Prima", we were really looking for a place rather than a sound. It was our first shared destination so we thought we'd take our time getting there. The song itself is a bit of a journey, but all the parts felt like they needed each other. So it became our blueprint in a sense. We wrote the album in deliberate isolation. Along the way asking ourselves lots of questions. We didn't find many answers, but found it was more about the questions themselves."
Danger Mouse, who is also part of Broken Bells, last released new music as Danger Mouse in 2017 year for the Baby Driver movie, where he teamed up with Run The Jewels and Big Boi for "Chase Me". This year he produced Parquet Courts' new record Wide Awake!.
Karen O has also worked with Parquet Courts on last year's collaborative album with Daniele Luppi MILANO. Karen O has only released one new track this year called "YO! MY SAINT", which features Michael Kiwanuka.
