Justin Vernon of Bon Iver says the new record has "an expansive sound"
Bon Iver have shared a 11-minute documentary in which Justin Vernon says that their forthcoming album i,i has "an expansive sound".
So far Bon Iver have shared four singles from their follow up to 2016's 22, A Million, "Hey, Ma", "U (Man Like)", "Jelmore" and "Faith".
WeTransfer Presents have shared a new 11-minute documentary on Bon Iver and the process behind their upcoming album i,i.
Vocalist Justin Vernon says, "This whole project did start out just kind of by myself, but all the support i've had, and watching the music grow in the last 10 years because of those influences and also me realising to relent, and to give the reins to others, made me feel more calm and more powerful at the same time."
Vernon adds, "There are similarities and tributaries through all the Bon Iver records leading to this one, and that still flow through this one. It's an expansive sound."
The group recorded their fourth album i,i at Sonic Ranch in West Texas and April Base in Wisconsin. Speaking about their time at Sonic Ranch, Vernon says, "It's definitely the most as a band that we've ever recorded. But it's a much bigger sound, and we're pushing more air. It's not as focused on just the guitars sometimes. I hope when people hear the record they're kind of interested to see how we'll do it live because it's quite intense, there's a lot of layers, a lot of big sounds, and everyone's challenged by the record."
Bon Iver's new record will include contributions from James Blake, Brad and Phil Cook, Aaron and Bryce Dessner, Bruce Hornsby, Naeem, Velvet Negroni, Channy Leaneagh, Marta Salogni, Francis Starlite, Moses Sumney, TU Dance, and many others.
