Justin Timberlake hopes new single will “bring more awareness” for 'Take Back The Night' cause
Recently, 2013′s king of pop comebacks Justin Timberlake unveiled his new single called ‘Take Back The Night’. Clearly, JT was unaware that the song shared its title with a really rather important anti-sexual abuse campaign group of the same name.
Lawyers from Take Back The Night hit back at Timberlake over the weekend for his decision to name a song after them, pointing out the lyrics in the question to be at odds with their message, deeming them “definitely very sexual and not at all clearly anti-sexual violence”.
Now, however, the pop singer has responded with an apologetic statement, in which he says he hopes the song will “bring more awareness” to the cause.
The statement reads in full:
“I wanted to take this opportunity to let all know that neither my song nor its lyrics have any association with the organization. As I’ve learned more about the Take Back the Night Foundation, I’m moved by its efforts to stop violence against women, create safe communities and encourage respectful relationships for women– something we all should rally around. It is my hope that this coincidence will bring more awareness to this cause.”
You can listen to the track below, taken from the upcoming second instalment of his The 20/20 Experience album, and find more out about the Take Back The Night campaign here.
