Judge denies Britney Spears' request to end father's role in conservatorship
A US judge has denied Britney Spears' request to remove her father Jamie Spears from his role in her 13-year conservatorship.
The request was made in November last year by Britney Spears' lawyer Samuel Ingham, who asked an LA court to end her father's control of her estate as part of her conservatorship.
Jamie Spears has been the popstar's sole conservator since it started in 2008.
As The Guardian reports, the legal document reads: "The conservatee’s request to suspend James P Spears immediately upon the appointment of Bessemer Trust Company Of California, NA as sole conservator of estate is denied without prejudice."
The request decision does not involve Spears' statement that she delivered in court last week, and according to BBC, the judge can't make a decision until Spears files a formal petition to end the conservatorship. CNN reported earlier this week that a source said that Spears has asked her lawyer to "file the paperwork to end this".
When speaking about her conservatorship in open court for the first time last week, Spears stated she would "honestly like to sue my family" due to the controlling nature of the conservatorship, and spoke about being forced to tour and being put on "lithium out of nowhere".
Following Spears' court hearing, her father Jamie Spears has since asked the court to investigate his daughter's claims. The Guardian notes that the documents, which were filed on Tuesday (29 June) night, saw Jamie Spears state that he hasn't had control over the star's personal affairs for close to two years.
