Joni Mitchell shares demo of first original song "Day After Day"
As part of her upcoming archive release, Joni Mitchell Archives Vol. 1: The Early Years (1963-1967), Joni Mitchell has released a demo of her first original song "Day After Day".
The demo of "Day After Day" was recorded in August 1965 on a demo tape for co-founder of Elektra records, Jac Holzman.
Mitchell said of her first ever original demo, "It was my firstborn. I didn’t know whether it was a good song or a bad song. It was just the first one that came out."
The Holzman demo tape also included other tracks "What Will You Give Me", "Let It Be Me", "The Student Song" and "Like the Lonely Swallow".
"Day After Day" is the second song to be released from Joni Mitchell Archives Vol. 1: The Early Years (1963-1967), following her cover of The Animals' "House of the Rising Sun" that arrived earlier this month.
The five-CD boxset includes nearly six hours of unreleased, rare material recorded at home, live, and on radio. Among those unheard songs are 29 tracks that have never been released with her vocals before. The set will also feature a 40-page booklet of unseen photos, linear notes and more.
