Jon Batiste to make acting debut in remake of The Color Purple
2021's most decorated Grammy winner Jon Batiste is set to make his acting debut in Blitz Bazawule’s upcoming remake of The Color Purple.
Jon Batiste, who picked up five Grammys this year (more than any other artist), has been confirmed for the upcoming remake of The Color Purple.
As Variety reports, The Color Purple will be Batiste's feature film acting debut. The remake will be directed by Blitz Bazawule, and Batiste will play Grady, the husband of Shug Avery (played by Shug Avery).
H.E.R. will also make an appearance in The Color Purple as Squeak, as well as Halle Bailey, who will play a Young Nettie. Ciara will also star in the film as Nettie, alongside Danielle Brooks, Colman Domingo, Corey Hawkins, Elizabeth Marvel, David Alan Grier, Tamala J. Mann, Phylicia Pearl Mpasi, Deon Cole ,Stephen Hill, Louis Gossett Jr. and Aunjanue Ellis.
As well as scooping up the most Grammys this year, Batiste won an Oscar in 2020 for Disney's Soul.
