Johnny Marr calls Blossoms and Rick Astley's Smiths tribute "funny and horrible"
Johnny Marr has responded to the viral video of Blossoms performing The Smiths' "This Charming Man" with Rick Astley, calling it "funny and horrible".
Earlier this week "Never Gonna Give You Up" star and Smiths fan Rick Astley joined Blossoms onstage in London to cover some songs by The Smiths, and after footage of them covering "This Charming Man" made the rounds on social media, Johnny Marr has given his verdict about the tribute.
Marr reposted the clip of their "This Charming Man" performance earlier today (17 September) and wrote, "This is both funny and horrible at the same time."
When asked by multiple people if he was given a heads up or whether Blossoms asked for approval, Marr revealed that they didn't, despite only having met up with the group a few weeks prior. In one response, Marr wrote, "Well, I met The Blossoms a few weeks ago and they elected to not mention it. Nice." In another, he added, "Didn’t mention when we were hanging out a few weeks ago. Must’ve slipped their minds."
