John Legend says appearing in the R. Kelly documentary was an "Easy decision"
The first part of Surviving R. Kelly aired yesterday (3 January), leading to John Legend taking to Twitter to express that his appearance in the documentary was an "Easy decision".
Lifetime aired the first part of the docuseries Surviving R. Kelly last night, which saw the musicians' accusers come forward, as well as the only musician to agree to participate in the documentary - John Legend.
Consequence of Sound reports that other musicians Jay-Z, Lady Gaga, Mary J. Blige, Erykah Badu, and comedian Dave Chappelle declined to appear in the documentary.
Taking to Twitter to acknowledge the documentary, Legend expressed, "These survivors deserved to be lifted up and heard. I hope it gets them closer to some kind of justice."
We should all thank my friend @dreamhampton for her very necessary work to create #SurvivingRKelly. These survivors deserved to be lifted up and heard. I hope it gets them closer to some kind of justice.

After the first part had aired, Legend revealed the reasons for appearing in the documentary, "To everyone telling me how courageous I am for appearing in the doc, it didn't feel risky at all. I believe these women and don't give a fuck about protecting a serial child rapist. Easy decision."

Rolling Stone reports that the musician has previously been open about his support to bring R. Kelly to justice. He showed support for the #MuteRKelly movement back in April.
R. Kelly, according to TMZ, threatened to sue Lifetime over the documentary being aired, but Lifetime are going ahead and airing the rest anyway.
