Jens Lekman's Night Falls Over Kortedala album is being removed from all platforms later this month
Jens Lekman's Night Falls Over Kortedala album is being taken down from all platforms later this month, and there'll be a final listening party event on YouTube to celebrate the record.
Lekman's second album Night Falls Over Kortedala was originally released in 2007, and last night (15 March) Secretly Canadian announced that it'll be "leaving this life and heading into eternity".
It's currently unclear why the album will be removed from all platforms but the issue could be down the number of samples used by the record. Lekman was a huge fan of sampling in his early output: 2003 breakthrough track "Maples Leaves" – which lifts from the likes of "Do You Wanna Dance" by The Mamas & the Papas, "By the Time I Get to Phoenix" by Glen Campbell and "I'm Gonna Make You Mine" – isn't currently on Spotify in the UK, along with Oh You're So Silent Jens, a collection of his first EPs.
Some of the more well-known tracks lifted for Night Falls Over Kortedala include "Young Americans" by David Bowie", "Give Me Just a Little More Time" by Chairmen of the Board, and "We the People Who Are Darker Than Blue" by Curtis Mayfield. Lekman's old label-mates The Tough Alliance also feature with their 2005 track "Take No Heroes".
There's no indication if or when the record will resurface in another format, although it celebrates it's 15th anniversary this October. Secretly Canadian added, "Purchase the record, download the digital album, & stream it for the last time by March 21st." There will also be a final listening party for the album on YouTube, which takes place on 21 March at 11am EST (3pm GMT).
