Jens Lekman announces Oh You’re So Silent Jens and Night Falls Over Kortedala reworks
Jens Lekman has announced that he'll be reissuing his Oh You’re So Silent Jens and Night Falls Over Kortedala albums under the new titles: The Cherry Trees Are Still in Blossom and The Linden Trees Are Still in Blossom.
Last month Secretly Cannadian announced that Lekman's Night Falls Over Kortedala would be removed from all platforms, over a decade on from the disappearance of Oh You’re So Silent Jens in 2011, and today (27 April) it's been revealed that the two records are returning, just not in their original form.
Oh You’re So Silent Jens is now titled The Cherry Trees Are Still in Blossom, and Night Falls Over Kortedala will be titled The Linden Trees Are Still in Blossom.
As well as announcing the reissues, Lekman has shared The Cherry Trees Are Still in Blossom on digital streaming services, and has released a new Jesper Norda and Kristian Berglund-directed video for "Maple Leaves".
He said of the reissues, "In many ways the remaking of these records is so much in line with what I was doing at the time. These records are a way of keeping music alive. It’s not preserving music; it’s allowing it to change. Preserved music is dead. I think that’s something that makes me sad about music these days, that it feels sometimes like it’s a big museum. Like butterflies dipped into chloroform pinned to the wall. This is music that is allowed to change. That is in the music’s nature."
Each of the reworked albums has the same core tracklisting, but features new versions of some tracks as well as some previously unreleased songs.
Lekman will pay tribute to the albums and discuss their "renewal" on two episodes of Secretly Canadian’s Secretly Society Podcast, the first of which is out now. The second episode will follow on 4 May.
