Jay Z to release six-hour performance of “Picasso Baby” as HBO special
Earlier this month Jay Z performed a single song off his new Magna Carta Holy Grail for six hours straight at an art gallery (a feat we’ve seen done before by a certain New York indie band). It turns out that six-hour run of the fittingly-titled “Picasso Baby” at New York’s Pace Gallery will be premiering on HBO on 2 August in the form of a special called Picasso Baby: A Performance Art Film.
In the special’s trailer, Jay Z says, “Rap is thinking out loud. You’re putting your fears, your vulnerabilities, and your insecurities to music. Concerts are pretty much performance art, and a smaller venue is a bit more intimate, so you feel the energy of the people.”
