Japanese designer creates 8-bit demo game based on Tim's Twitter Listening Parties
Japanese designer Takekiyo has created an 8-bit demo video game based on Tim Burgess' Tim's Twitter Listening Parties.
When the first national lockdown happened in March 2020, Tim Burgess decided to bring people together over Twitter through music. He started hosting Twitter Listening Parties, beginning with The Charlatans' Some Friendly album on 23 March.
Burgess spent nearly every evening of 2020 since 23 March hosting Listening Parties, allowing fans to connect with the musicians themselves while live shows were put on hold due to the pandemic.
Today (12 February), Burgess has shared a clip of a new 8-bit demo video game created by Japanese pixel art designer Takekiyo.

Much like old school Super Mario 8-bit games, Burgess' character has to navigate through platform levels to collect the album artwork of the records that have received their own Listening Party. Some of the other characters in the demo game include David Bowie, Arlo Parks and Jarvis Cocker.
Burgess told NME of the game, "He sent over a couple of ideas for a retro arcade Mario style game based on the albums we’ve had at the listening party and he just sent more levels including a screen for our Iron Maiden listening party tonight. We’re working on the next levels as we speak – Pixel Roisin Murphy is so cool! We might even end up with a playable game."
